ABOUT OUR COMPANY

With years of expertise and experience, African Business Syndicate Holdings is proud to be regarded as an eco-friendly, carbon neutral agro-processing, metallurgical engineering and manufacturing leader. Every decision is inspired by our main mission, which is to provide the highest standard of product and services to both businessess and consumers.

Founded by Elekiä Jerry Mwene, a descendant of the Mwene-Mutapa dynasty and Isabel, the only daughter of Duarte De Casto-Castilho, the renowned Portuguese explorer and gold trader who settled in Southern Rhodesia (modern day Zimbabwe); the company bears the vision of its lineage as the name Mwene - "Lords of Precious Minerals" denotes. Our company, prior known as "Mwene Mills" relocated to Zambia upon the discovery of large Copper and Cobalt deposits in Nchanga in 1930s but was later sold to Dr. Kenneth D. Kaunda's administration in 1969 under nationalisation of all mines in the country. Prior to the sale, chieftain Mwene was one of the only few indigenous African mine proprietors under the British Colonial Rule who had been allowed to operate a mine by virtue of his royal immunity and in partnership with Alfred Chester Beatty of the Rhodesian Selection Trust - Zambia's premier mining conglomerate during that era. A significant portion of his company's proceeds went into funding the decolonization and liberation movements underway in the country and across the continent.

We have marched a long way, and ABSH has since diversified into different sectors of industry, and is currently run by the new generation of Mwenes and Kaweche-Banda's whose passion for championing climate change and mitigating global warming has led us to incorporate sustainability measures in all aspects of our business.
In this rapidly changing industry, we are conzignant of the importance of continually updating our approach to stay relevant in the market, and are committed to just that.

Pink Sugar

CLIMATE CHANGE INITIATIVES: According to data garnered by the UNCCM, ''mitigating climate change receives less than 2 % of all charitable donations globally'', this is devastating taking into account the fact that the objective of mitigation is to circumvent human interference with the planet's climate. That's why 10% of all ABSH's proceeds are donated towards philanthropic causes that help alleviate the effects of global warming.

REHABILITATING JUVENILE DELINQUENTS: The youth are a non-negotiable aspect of global sustainable development; as stewards of the planet and all that has been invested in it, even the seemingly most abhorrent of them deserve the opportunity to redeem themselves, actualize their potential and channel it towards advancing humanity. In our effort to contribute to achieving this aim, we sponsor programs aimed at nurturing, counselling and equipping troubled youth with the skills they need to positively transform their lives and communities.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT:
Insubstantial infrastructure limits human living and working conditions, undermines dignity, derails progress and entraps the most disadvantaged in society, in a dire cycle of poverty. We at ABSH are committed to breaking this cycle in the communities in which we operate by championing causes that exist to enhance standard of living through projects like building schools, electricity poles, water pumps and roads that connect rural residents to urban areas, thereby facilitating local trade & mitigate accidents and delays wrought by poor infrastructure.

The SDGs ABSH Aligns with

In 1994, Global Economic Advisor John Elkington redefined conventional business success metrics as beyond a company being just profitable, to encompass it's operations being beneficial to both Humanity and Mother Earth, when he coined the term -

''Triple Bottom Line''.

A theorem that advocates for an organization to contribute to social wellness (people), a sustainable economy (prosperity)  and environmental health (planet) alongside being lucrative.

We, at ABSH wholeheartedly concur with this theory, and in our resolve to go above and beyond embodying it, have aligned our systems with the objective of attaining some of the UN SDGs!

Lack of sustainable employment is one the leading contributing factors to  poverty.
Decent occupation (such as of the calibre we provide our staff here) gives employees access to economic resources; academic and scholarly opportunities; fringe benefits; compensation coverage in case of emergencies; capital and even intangible assets they can utilize to enhance their standard of living and attain upwards mobility; therefore mitigating the number of people living in poverty.

ABSH understands that businesses like ours, in the line of mineral exploration, construction, operation and maintenance may result in negative land use change such as loss in biodiversity, adverse impacts on the carbon cycle and soil profiles of the environments concerned; that is why we go beyond our corporate duty and exert additional effort into integrating non-toxic practices, i.e. carbon sequestration and synergistic op systems in all of our undertakings, at every level and across the board.
We  ensure that our modus operandi takes into consideration the welfare of every stakeholder in our community, and has ecologically benign, or at the very least, neutral effects on our beautiful planet, Earth and in doing so, champions the prosperity, good health and well-being of all.

ABSH understands that gender equality is quintessential to a healthy and progressive society; noted by global researchers as imperative to increased productivity & economic growth.
One of the key realms that this must be applied in, is the workforce. Parity of income between women and men in this regard, will help bridge the gender divide, and foster an equipoise of power between the sexes.
As advocates for gender equality in the workplace, our organization implements a gender equity hiring policy of 50% women in all departments and at every level.

The role employment plays in growing and then, sustaining growth of the economy at regional, national and global scale cannot be overemphasized; by providing (through our very existence) avenues for decent job creation and hubs where talent can be nurtured, and skills imparted in dignity, we are helping eliminate temptations of workers subjecting themselves to neo-slavery-esque and dangerous labour.
In joyful adherence to the (International Labour Organization) ILO's motion of ''employing at least 6% of our personnel as disabled workers'', we recruit as 20% of our employment quota - persons with disabilities to any position within our organization for which they qualify. In  doing so, we mitigate the need for them to resort to demeaning and hazardous work.

Industrial businesses apart from being a core driving factor of international trade, and key contributor to the GDP are the premier employers of blue-collar workers, who may lack the adequate literacy, numeracy and computation skills to otherwise find jobs.
Throughout history, this sector through focus on efficiency, and economies of scale, has spearheaded ingenuous and innovative production & delivery methods globally.
ABSH is cognizant of the power this sector holds, and we wield ours to sustainably build ecological and resilient systems that contribute to a more fairer, productive & inclusive society.
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we offer free quality education in the form of extracurricular activities and workshops to our blue-collar workers thrice a week. This allows them the dual opportunity of developing their skills while earning a decent living.
